The De Soto make was founded by Walter P. Chrysler on August 4, 1928, and introduced for the 1929 model year. During the first twelve months, DeSoto production set a record 81,065 cars with 1,500 dealers selling the 1929 DeSoto Six. This premier automobile has 55 horsepower, oil filter, Lockheed hydraulic brakes, standard automatic windshield wiper, ignition lock, brake light, full-instrumentation, steering hub controls for headlights, and a tool kit with grease gun.
DeSoto's were produced until the 1961 DeSoto (no other model name that year). Over 2 million vehicles used the DeSoto nameplate from 1929 to 1961.
