Walter Percy Chrysler automotive carrier started when he joined GM's Buick division in 1911 and by 1916 was GM's Executive Vice-President. WPC left GM in 1919.

Chrysler purchased the much larger Dodge Brothers in 1928 a few years after both Dodge brothers died of influenza. Chryler became a member of the "Big Three" under Ford and GM.
